Where is it, and why visit Greece?


Greece is located in southeastern Europe, on the Mediterranean Sea. It is bordered by Bulgaria, Albania, Turkey, and the Republic of Macedonia. Greece’s mainland consists of a peninsula and numerous islands throughout the Aegean and Ionian seas.

The country has a rich history spanning thousands of years, with influences from both Eastern European and Middle Eastern cultures. Greece is a popular destination for tourists who come to enjoy its Mediterranean climate and beaches, archaeological sites, culture, cuisine, nightlife and friendly locals. With its picturesque backdrop of the sea and mountains, it’s easy to see why this ancient country remains one of the most desirable places to visit in Europe. My first holiday at the age of 6 months old was to Rhodes – and I’ve been visiting Greece and the Greek Islands ever since!

Greece is divided into 13 regions– Attica, Central Greece, Central Macedonia, Crete, Epirus, the Ionian Islands, the North Aegean Islands, Peloponnese, Thessaly and West Greece. Each region is home to unique attractions such as stunning mountain landscapes, picturesque beaches and charming towns. The landscapes of each region offer something different; from snow-capped mountains to sun-drenched beaches, and lush forests to ancient ruins.

The Greek mediterranean sea areas are a great destination for visitors. Greece has more than 6,000 islands in total. Of the 230 inhabited islands, 177 are located in the Aegean Sea and only around 50 are found in the Ionian Sea.

From exploring villages tucked away on the mainland to discovering hidden coves and secret beaches on the islands, you’re guaranteed a unique experience. Plus, with delicious regional food, vibrant culture and ancient ruins to explore, a trip to the Greek mediterranean is sure to be unforgettable.


The Greek mediterranean sea is also known for its crystal-clear waters that shimmer in the sun and craggy rock formations that provide plenty of opportunity for cliff diving or other water sports. You can easily find boat tours that take you around some of the most beautiful parts of the coastline, so you can really enjoy it all from every angle. The historical sites of Greece are world-renowned; from the Acropolis in Athens to Delphi and Olympia. There are ancient ruins everywhere you look, each painting a fascinating picture of the history that shaped this beautiful country. From archaeological sites to grand castles and monasteries, these landmarks offer an insight into the complex culture of Greece.
